DAY OF SERVICE

During a one-day event, teams of private-sector volunteers mobilize their skills to meet the needs of several City departments and agencies. The next Day of Service will be held in 2020, date TBD.

 

The Process

Pre-Program

Sourcing: The Office of Civic Innovation sources 1-day civic challenges from departments across SF City government

Matching: Companies vote on preferred civic challenges and OCI matches

Day-Of

 

Kickoff: Pro-bono teams meet City partners and review Day of Service challenges

Teamwork: Teams volunteer during a day-long session to deliver tactical deliverables

Wrap-Up: Celebration event to wrap-up the day

Post-Program

Types of Projects

User Research & Design

Focuses on understanding the end users of a government service or program.

Examples: Creating a user research plan, conducing user research interviews, form design

Strategy Execution

Focuses on execution of components of strategies for a City Department.

Examples: Carve out a concrete task from a larger strategy

Data Collection & Synthesis

Focuses on leveraging data to solve a particular challenge or need.

Examples: Documentation and storytelling of open data

Communications & Content

Focuses on improving a Department's communications and outreach.

Technology

Focuses on targeted, high-need, technology implementation needs.
